#PeriodicWrap – 8th April, 2017

In this #PeriodicWrap:

BAE and PWC  have released recently a report, with the support of the NCSC, that UK companies are reportedly being targeted for espionage, intellectual property theft and compromise of other sensitive data through supply chains such as managed service providers, and smaller entities, as larger organisation increase their defences. This resonates with some of our own findings in our conference paper presented at the 4th Annual Forensic Accounting Teaching and Research Conference, held at Bond University last year, where communication and collaboration was highlighted as critical, as part of increasing defences across the interconnected ecosystem.

This past week, ITNews reported the Australian Parliament’s Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit launched an enquiry into cybersecurity compliance led by Committee Chair and Senator Dean Smith. The enquiry is underpinned by an Australian National Audit Office report on cyber-resilience based on the ASD Top Four mitigation strategies: Cybersecurity Compliance – Inquiry into Auditor-General’s report 42 (2016-17), with a public hearing Friday 12 May 2017 in Canberra. Programme TBA.

Further to our previous posts highlighting Austrac’s FinTel Alliance with UK as its first international partner , and @CommBank’s work with @Austrade in increasing the flow of Fintech innovation between the UK and Australia, @BritishChamber, in collaboration with supporting sponsor, @tradegovukAUS‏, is funding a select number of leading edge fintech start-ups and SMEs, interested in expanding their business to the UK, to join the British Australian Fintech Forum (BAFF) delegation to London for the April conference. It is great to see cybersecurity embedded into this programme. Standards Australia also recently hosted a multinational meet up toward a joined up approach to developing blockchain standards that enhance interoperability and security.

On that note, a reminder CSNs is supporting the Australian Fraud Summit (WFXCS1: 6th Annual Fraud Summit); and, the Cyber Threats Summit, where I am also delighted to be speaking (CSNS_10: Cyber Threat Summit).

Finally, I am very much looking forward to speaking at the AWSN luncheon, sponsored by Ernst and Young at their Brisbane offices on Monday, and to speaking at the prestigious InnovationAus.com Cyber Security Leaders Forum, 3rd May in Sydney.
